Calendar interface Ideas to integrate into Charles' site

Calendar website

Design:  Flash-enabled, zoomable.  Tabs at top switch from BUS/SOCIAL/MEE (alone-relax)(optional) 

COLORS VERY IMPORTANT:  default B/W for business, colored for social (with a couple other suggested palettes).  Red will only be used for events involving opposite sex (or toggleable to flagged high-priority events).  I don’t think I can emphasize enough the added value some well-thought-out color schemes are (with the priority being to get a very intuitive default)

                Questions:  RED-in SOCIAL for opposite-sex/significant-other?/family?? events .  Unsure what’s best to use it for on nonsingles since family and lovers aren’t easily linked only to fight-or-flight typically associated with red.  Advise a lot of research and/or an expert on color associations.

                                FOREST GREEN-  anything strictly outdoors? (idea:  auto-dim the green acc. to weather)

                Texuring—Use textures for geographical location (i.e. blocky for local, wavy for surrounding area, checkered for across town,  animated-wavy for out-of-town?

LAYOUT AND NAVIGATION – 

AUTOFOCUS-  MAGNIFY timeslots that have many subsequent events (or options), and SHRINK timeslots that have .  It’s always annoyed me on calendar interfaces that they give the same space for days with 20 events in a row that they do to empty ones. (though maybe some people prefer the old format).  Making things autoscale (adjustable perhaps) could remedy this.

                Further idea- Thinner banners for multi-day events in week/month mode.  Make them thin colored lines at the top, labeled only on bubbles  that would bulge at the ends.  This saves space and is more intuitive.  Optional to

events spanning multiple days (conferences, visitors) would not only be banners on top, but the lines would be thin except at the ends, which contain the labels.   This saves space and is more intuitive.  If a major event (a big speaker) happens on the timeline, it could bulge out on that day.

The human mind tends to associate events with their importance more than their actual temporal length.  The calendar interface should reflect this.  The calendar should automatically resize events to avoid wasted space, while giving the impression

ZOOMABLE

 something like Google Maps or Facebook slideshow but

  Color persistence important  Toggle for zoom from year/month/week/day.  Zoom all the way out to lifetime (from cell to grave spaceship).  Draggable left/right between months like slideshow (even smoothly?)
